Hypnosis for public speaking and presentations
So you’ve been told that you must do a pitch for your forthcoming staff meeting. Whilst you find speeches a little nerve-wracking, you tell yourself it will be alright. But as the meeting comes closer, you know that it won’t be okay and you are sorry for saying that you’d do this. The mere notion of giving a presentation of your thoughts to your team will bring you out in a sweat and make your heart thump.
Is this a familiar picture?
It’s actually not as uncommon as perhaps you might believe. It is estimated that 10 percent of people experience some form of social phobia within the UK, that equals close to 6.3 million men and women.
Anxiety about public speaking can make life very hard and can have a major effect on a person’s life; from quitting university or not being in position to come across positively in job interviews, to staying away from promotion in the office if the new role requires making sales pitches.
Widespread social anxiety effects are:
- Escalated pulse rate
- Perspiring or hot flushes
- Going red in the face
- Nausea or stomach discomfort
- Struggling to concentrate
- Developing a stutter
- Feeling frustrated
- Insomnia in the run up to a presentation
Hypnosis for public speaking and presentation nerves
Presentation nerves in many cases are triggered by early experiences of stress or humiliation in a social setting. Regardless of whether we don’t remember them, these experiences are kept in the subconscious and form the conscious thinking we have about ourselves, like ‘I can’t speak when in front of a group because I’ll wind up saying something stupid’.
After guiding the individual into a trance-like state of relaxation, the hypnotherapist will start to change these subconscious beliefs with more useful, beneficial suggestions about just how the client feels about social events. By helping the individual become free from the inhibiting self-beliefs of the past, the hypnotherapist can also help the client feel more confident in their lives in general, not just simply with speaking in public.
Social anxiety is quite easy and simple to treat with hypnosis. After just a couple sessions, many clients begin to notice a major difference in the way they react to social settings and situations.
A hypnotic approach for social anxiety may help you to:
- Feel utterly in control, composed and confident when giving a speech.
- Participate in networking events, seminars, or maybe make sales calls without dread or anxiousness.
- Provide help to feel relaxed with being the centre of attention.
- Enable you to not only feel less frightened about public speaking, but actually have fun!
