Hypnotherapy- The most effective solution to stress.

Most of us have experienced some stress within our lives and have had to put up with the effects of it frequently.Stress related health problems are rife in society and even the corporate world is now realizing how an employee’s mental health and ‘wellness’ is critical to his or her performance at work.

As well as feeling burned out, exhausted and generally unwell, stress is also strongly linked to physical problems such as

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraine
  • Neck pain
  • Stomach problems

There are limitless triggers – each person responds uniquely to their surroundings so what affects one person strongly can have no effect on another. A lot of people find they cope astonishingly well day to day with stress symptoms until something tips the balance and they break from the strain quite quickly.

Very few people can breeze through life stress free, but most of us can handle a fair level of stress without our health and wellness being unduly affected.

Some signs that you may be having difficulty coping with stress are:

  • Feeling overwhelmed or unable to focus
  • A lack of sleep or disturbed sleep
  • Feeling jumpy
  • Being easily irritated
  • Being irrational and snapping at the slightest thing

You may also begin finding yourself partaking in bad habits more often and if stress begins to take over it can lead to chronic anxious feelings or depression if not treated. If you think stress is beginning to influence your life negatively and you are finding it hard to cope, hypnotherapy could be the help you’re looking for.

Hypnotherapy For Stress in Bournemouth and Poole

Temporary stress can be treated effectively through the use of hypnotherapy. When you are aware that there is an especially stressful situation approaching, a hypnotic approach can help you prepare and/or manage the negative thoughts and feelings that arise. As an example, if you are attending job interviews and find the stress is affecting your performance, there are many ways a hypnotic approach could help.

One powerful technique also used in sports psychology involves rehearsing a particular event going well. In the beginning this might be imagining the stressful event going just a little better and then, when that becomes easier and more believable, the person can then ‘see’, ‘feel’ and even ‘hear’ themselves completely mastering the situation.

Hypnosis is commonly associated with relaxation, which means that the very act of hypnosis may allow your stress levels to be diminished without any other intervention. At my practice in Dorset I teach people a great number of tools and techniques which I have found work well for the majority of people. One of these I’ll explain below.

The 7-11 Breathing technique

This is a simple exercise I teach all my clients whatever the issue I am helping them with. It helps focus the mind on the act of breathing more slowly and deeply. And when your breathing is slow, steady and relaxed, it is very difficult, if not impossible to feel stressed or anxious. So here are the basic steps:

1) Find a comfy place to relax and close your eyes.

2) Take a nice deep breath from the tummy (not the chest) while counting slowly to 7.

3) Hold your breath for a second or two.

4) Then breathe out to the count of 11.

5) Repeat for a few minutes and enjoy.

This will take a bit of practice because we are generally not used to breathing out for this long but it’s important to spend more time on the out-breath because it’s this that produces the relaxation response.

Resolve the cause of your stress

It’s the long-term capacity to cope with stress and anxiety that is the key benefit of hypnotherapy. You’ll be able to enjoy a much more relaxed and assured perspective and feel more competent in your capacity to cope with stress and anxiety.

A hypnotherapist could typically provide help to find the underlying cause of the issue before helping you learn how to reduce stress levels. This is an empowering approach, because not only are you able to discover why you’ve been affected with the signs and symptoms for so long but most importantly you can learn how to manage and tackle it yourself.
